22nd year of the school’s existence
The students of the 1967-68 school year were among the U.S. citizens who experienced the large-scale anti-Vietnam War protests and the horrific assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert Kennedy.
Their school experiences were much happier. Judging from the coverage in the Trichter, sports achievements were lackluster, but NHS continued the tradition of a major dramatic production presented in the Fürth Opera House. Many problems producing “Tom Jones” were dealt with by director Judy Gordy and the 20 plus NHS thespians. A major achievement, according to the seniors, was securing their own break room. A vigorous home economics program enabled 75 girls to model their clothing fashions. With the arrival of two new faculty members came, for the first time, a marching band and classes in Spanish. Work-study, a curricular program started the year before, was expanded this year to include training in the fields of nursing and hospital lab work. Bruce Capps did a special service for many alumni by interviewing the ever popular Norah Speck and writing her colorful history. And finally, for the first time in the history of the Trichter, the school newspaper was produced by an all-female staff.

No memorabilia is available at this time. A commencement program would be nice.
