Archives 1965-1966

The students of the 1965-66 school year set a new record when 1100 students enrolled in grades 7-12.

No school newspaper was published in this school year. Without a “Trichter,” it was up to the yearbook, “The Eagle’s Nest,” to chronicle the school year’s events in both pictures AND words.  This they did under the editorship of Kathy Minnerly, and with the assistance of a very capable staff, produced a very informative yearbook .

Throughout, the purpose was not just to print pictures of the school groups but also to TELL what these groups did. These are some of the events covered in the yearbook:

The Eagle football team won its second championship in a row. Its success was amply covered with 20 pages of photos and words.

The NHS chorus was part of a German-American Meistersingerhalle concert. In December the band, and chorus presented a Christmas concert at the Kaisersaal in the Nürnberg castle.

The seniors sponsored a visit to a German Children’s Home at Christmas time.

“The Eagle’s Nest” staff sponsored “Teachers Take a Student to Lunch Day” and a Slave Sale at the Carnival Dance.

The Drama Club presented two plays: Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible” and Shakespeare’s comedy “Twelfth Night.”  Both plays were challenging, especially the Shakespeare play, which required an enormous cast.

The Student Council ended the year with an event started in 1960, Eagle Week. Three years went by before it was revived in 1965.  The Class of 1966 staged their own version of Eagle Week IV to finish out an active school year.
